How the BookLetters service works: Libraries
use the BookLetters Tool Kit to control the selection of newsletters
being offered, customize page layouts, add messages to newsletters,
create staff favorite lists, add events, and select other
feature book lists. Built into this service is a website module
that can be linked to the library main website. Patrons have
the ability to subscribe to lists directly from the site,
and libraries have the ability to load batch files of e-mail
addresses on the system.
BookLetters
operates on a platform built and maintained by BookSite. All
e-newsletters, database support, and web pages originate from
this central platform. It is a proven service that has been
serving independent bookstores since 1995.
BookLetters
uses BookPage reviews from the popular monthly publication
distributed by most major libraries. BookLetters also relies
on the 2.5 million-item Ingram Book Database, bookcover graphics,
and annotations in the automated functions provided through
the BookLetters Tool Kit.
Libraries
can operate BookLetters as a totally automated application
with no staff involvement or customize and control the service
to any extent desired. Tool Kit features are staff-friendly.
Libraries build patron awareness of BookLetters while BookLetters
builds content and maintain e-mail lists for the libraries.
All e-newsletter lists remain the sole property of the libraries.
BookLetters does not lend, share or sell e-mail lists to others.
E-mail
newsletters are distributed in "HTML format" only. They are
e-mailed web pages that contain book cover graphics and active
links back to the main library site. It also links patrons
directly to the library's OPAC. E-newsletter pages are easy
for customers to pass on to others and include an unsubscribe
form in compliance with internet etiquette.
